Awake Mzansi! is a news, opinions and facts platform; formed in 2016 with the objective of informing, educating and awakening South African voters – particularly the apathetic, to the power and possibility of the vote they hold in their hands.

We consider ourselves fair and independent. We are not about:

  • Political allegiance
  • Tit-for-tat politics
  • Lies and deception
  • Campaigning today for no delivery tomorrow
  • Divisions and racism

Over the last few years, South Africa has gone through, and continues to experience, a seemingly unabated period of decline. The country is facing many problems, such as the all-time high unemployment rate, the rapid scourge of crime and violence, unstoppable corruption and looting, the worsening economy – and a governing party mired by on-going divisions, a “party first & country second” attitude and evidently a lack of political will to deal with the problems. It is abundantly clear that South Africa is in a bad state. Our votes can change this!

And of greater worry is perhaps the lack of interest or care in voting by many South African citizens, particularly the youth. Voter apathy is on the rise and as a country we should be very concerned.

By turning their backs on elections, citizens are not holding those in power to account and never take them to task for the lack of delivery on the promises they have made. As the country’s downward trajectory continues, we as citizens can ill afford to remain silent.

Thus, the need and importance of voter education.  Voters need to know that there are alternatives. Awake Mzansi! informs and highlights the issues facing the country. We shine a light on the news that matter; we engage, we stimulate debate and discussion, and most importantly we help South Africans get a better sense of which political party to vote for.

We are fiercely and proudly South African and want the country to work and thrive. We want a free, fair, prosperous and safe South Africa for all!

We stand for and are committed to:

  • The truth
  • A prospering, free and fair South Africa for all
  • Providing hope and illustrating the importance and difference your vote can make
  • Finding a solution
  • Giving people information and encouraging critical thinking in order to make an informed decision
  • Equality

As a Political Action Group (PAG), we are focused on educating South African voters about the election process, the various political parties competing for their vote and the important task and right of voting that citizens have. Citizens, particularly the disaffected and disillusioned millennial generation – our key audience; need to be informed and to realize that the only way that things can change in this country, is if they participate in the elections. Their votes will and do make a difference.

We are all about the truth and facts. No-frills and deceit. Ours is to empower voters with factual knowledge, so that they can make informed decisions ahead of the upcoming municipal and national elections. We shine a light on the fake news, PR spin and counter narratives that now form part of the political landscape.

Ultimately, if we can influence and get the youth to get out and vote, and more importantly, critically think about who they are voting for, why they are voting for them, then we would have also fulfilled a major objective.

At Awake Mzansi! We want you to become part of the conversation; share our information; engage with others in the community, become active citizens; hold your leaders to account and importantly, spread the message that election participation and voting is the single biggest opportunity to effect positive change in this country.

Silence and apathy no more.

The time is now, Mzansi!
